End of an Era

Today marks an end of an era for me. Okay maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it feels that way for me anyways. Today was my last day at my job. I’ve never once written on my site, where I work, but now that I have left I don’t mind mentioning it. For the past 3 years, 8 months, and 9 days I have been working at the University of La Verne as an Instructional Technology Specialist. There’s been a lot of ups and downs, but for the most part I’ve really enjoyed the job. I’ve met a lot of really good people at the University. The best class I’ve ever had(Photography) was taken at the University. But best of all, I’ve made a lot of good friends at work. Most of them are our student workers in our office…and despite the age difference, I can honestly say I consider them to be close friends. I’m definitely going to miss working with and seeing them everyday. The same goes for my 2 colleagues, Cedric and Bryan.
The thought of waking up tomorrow and not going to work, seeing my coworkers, joking around with them, walking around campus, etc., sorta bums me out in a way. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled and excited about the new job, but at the same time…this has been my life for the past 4 years.
Aside from the friendships, I am most proud of what me and my supervisor Cedric have accomplished in the two and a half years since he has come to work at the University. We have built an exceptional department providing top notch services to the faculty, staff and students at the university. I won’t go too into detail about what we did, but a lot of people looked upon our group with high regard. We were in charge of providing technology needs for the University by way of multimedia classrooms and carts, implementing cutting edge technology, providing workshops and one-on-one trainings, etc. But certain things have changed over the past several months, and I think the department has lost a lot of steam. That’s not to say we don’t still provide high quality of service. Despite our unhappiness with everything that has been going on, we still looked after the faculty, staff, and students of the university.
Anyways, Cedric and I had a rough start in the beginning. I didn’t like him much when he first came aboard. Who am I kidding? I despised him. HAHA. But over time, we have since become good friends and I know someday we will be working together again. We make a great team. There’s no question about it.
