There will be times that I’m walking around campus and a faculty or staff member who I recognize (but don’t remember their name) will be walking by and they will say, “Hi Pete.” And I’ll just reply, “Oh hi!” But today when I got to work, I was walking through the parking lot and a car pulled up next to me. I did not recognize the lady in the car at all…so I figured it was someone who was lost and they were going to ask me for directions. She rolls down her window and says, “Hi Pete.” I stopped in my tracks thinking to myself…who the hell is this person? I smiled and said, “good morning”. And she drove off. From my reaction, I’m sure she knew that I didn’t remember who she was.
