For once I am enjoying a quiet Saturday morning. The baby’s been fed and is now taking a nap. Jane is taking an infant CPR class(which I will also be taking next month) which is from 9am-12pm. So I will use this time alone to pay some bills online, balance my checkbook, catch up on blogs and emails, and perhaps pop in a DVD.

At some point today, we’ll have to clean up the house as well. Right now it looks like a tornado swept through here. Tomorrow my parents are coming to visit, and the house is in no shape for visitors at the moment.

Speaking of the house, yesterday was the two year mark since we moved in. My how time flies. I’ll never forget that excitement we were feeling buying and moving into this house. We bought it in Dec. 2000 as it was being built. Every week we drove by the house and took pictures. If there were no construction workers around, Jane and I would sneak into the house and look around and take pictures. When the house was close to being finished, the builders would lock the doors at the end of the day. Around that time, just about every night I would get home from work around 7:30pm, we’d have dinner, rest a little, then around 10pm we’d drive over to the house and look around. It would be amost pitch black since there were no street lights installed yet. But there we were, peering into the windows with flashlights looking to see what new changes they had made. That was a lot of fun.

So two years ago yesterday, we were given the keys and allowed to move in. The keys were given to us in the evening, so we didn’t move anything in yet. But we went to go sleep in the empty house in our sleeping bags. We did that for three days. Then when the weekend rolled around, we had some friends come help us move in. We had quite a bit of stuff too. In addition to all of our stuff that was packed in boxes, we had to move two TVs, a coffee table, two beds, my computer desk, a book shelf, a washing machine, two night stands, a dresser, and two entertainment systems. I don’t know how the hell we fit all that crap in our old apartment.

Anyways while we were moving in, one of our friends noticed something interesting going on in our neighbor’s backyard. We all gathered around the window (totally obvious that we were staring since we didn’t have any blinds yet) to check it out. There were about 4 or 5 very large Samoan people gathered around this fire pit in the backyard. Over the fire they were roasting this pig on this huge pole, which went thru the pigs mouth and out the other end. I had never seen anything like that before. I was kinda shocked by it. We all had a good laugh…cept I was sorta not too happy about that. I was picturing seeing these people out there every night roasting animals over their firepit. Eventually we found out that they weren’t the people who even lived there. They were the contractors that the home owner hired to do his backyard. I guess when they were done building the firepit, they decided to test it by throwing a pig over the flames. :)

After we were done moving everything in, we ordered some pizza for lunch. Then we just hung around talking for a few hours. Then Sunny suggested we have a poker party, since most of our regulars were already there. So Sunny and Shirley cooked up some spaghetti, while Gat and I went to go return the U-haul. Then there was the infamous toilet incident. When we got back, Marilyn and Shirley were frantically trying to stop the overflow from the downstairs toilet. They were catching the overflowing water from the toilet and dumping it into the sink. But whatever went down the sink came right back up out of the toilet. Meanwhile Sunny is draining the spaghetti in the kitchen sink and that is now backed up too. What a nightmare. Fortunately, the upstairs bathrooms and the showers were okay. We ate dinner and continued on with our poker night. The next day we had a plumber come out. He checked out the plumbing line that leads from our house out to the main line and it was blocked by huge chunks of dried up concrete which must have leaked in there during construction. That fixed the problem. Pretty nasty stuff.
