Yesterday on my lunch break I walked over to the Luteran Thrift Store around the corner. Whenever I have stuff I don’t need anymore(like an old printer, scanner, computer stuff, clothes, books, etc) I donate it to them. Well I also like to browse through the book section of their store. I look at the children’s book section in particular. I’ve found some pretty good books there. We’ve already started reading to the baby even though she hasn’t been born yet. They say reading around this stage is good for the baby because she will get acclimated to our voices. Besides everytime we read to her at night, she starts kicking and moving around which is always fun to watch and feel. Anyways, last week I bought some Clifford books which are cute books. The usually retail for $5-6. The ones I found at the thrift store were practically brand new…no creases or anything. I paid $.05 each for them. I also like Richard Scarry books as I grew up on them. Those retail for $10-15…the one I bought I paid $.50. So I stop there from time to time to see if any new used books have come in. When I went there yesterday I bought a few more books and I also bought this book called The Dog Trainer’s Guide to Parenting for $.25. I started reading it last night. The author who is a dog trainer points out similarities to training dogs to training/teaching babies and kids. He spent the first chapter of the book defending himself for making such a comparison. That was kind of funny. I didn’t get too far, but some of the stuff he wrote seems like good advice. I’ll have to finish reading it before I can decide whether I will follow any of the advice when it comes to rasing our kid.
