Raising Kids
(Sorry...no pictures)

No I don't have any kids, but I think I know more about raising kids than a lot of parents out there. You're probably wondering what experience I have raising kids...and to tell you the truth, none whatsoever. My knowledge of kids comes from me studying developmental psychology at UCI and my short stint at CHOC(Childrens Hospital of Orange County) where I served as a recreational therapist. I'm not claiming to be a know-it-all, but I see a lot of people out there with kids who are not fit to be parents.

I'm writing about raising kids, mainly because I find it disturbing that irresponsible people are having kids. I think if you are going to have kids, then you should be ready to deal with all of the things that come with having kids. Some people think that babies are soooooo cute and they just want to have a baby, but they aren't thinking beyond that. They're just thinking about having a cute little baby. What they aren't thinking about is how much reponsibility it requires to have a baby, not to mention how much money. These cute babies are eventually going to become loud and rambunctious kids, then demanding and rebelious teenagers, and eventually money sucking college students. :)

I'm particularly bothered when I see a mother screaming at or hitting her kid in public. I see this more and more these days than ever before. First of all by doing this, you look like a complete idiot. You're also, most likely, creating a scene. Why the hell are you treating your kid like he's an circus animal? Is it because he/she is running and playing around? Well, that's what kids do! If it bothers you, then leave your kids at home(under supervision of course). I was at a Marshalls department store recently and I was witnessing this woman yelling at her little boy. He kept crying, which infuriated her even more. She started smacking him around, which didn't help. He started screaming too. Well apparently I wasn't the only person who noticed...this other lady came up to her told her to go easy on her kid. The mother of the kid went nuts. She stated yelling at the lady..."Excuse me! Do you know what the hell is going on here?" The lady replied, "Yes...you're beating your kid." The woman got right up in her face and yelled at her, "No, you don't have a fucken clue what is going on, so why don't you mind your own business before I call the police!" Yeah, like what the hell was she going to say?!? "Officer, please arrest this lady. She interupted me while I was beating my kid." This sorta crap really pisses me off. It's women like that who's kids are gonna grow up hating their mother. Wouldn't be surprised if that kid, when he gets older, puts a shotgun to her head like the Menendez brothers. Abusive parents, beware!

Keeping control over your kids can be difficult. Kids tend to have an abundance of energy. They also tend to rebel around the age of five or six. But beating your kid is no excuse. I'm a supporter of the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse. For more information on this group and for parenting tips, please check out the NCPCA Homepage. If you are a parent who abuses your kid, then you need some help...or you need to have the shit beaten out of you from time to time.

Another thing that really bothers me is when parents put themselves before their kids. If you have kids, they should automatically become your number one priority. I went to watch the movie Titanic when it came out. It was an 11 o'clock showing. Well after we bought the tickets we had to wait in a line to get into the building. My girlfriend pointed out this couple standing in line. They were with their kid(probably one or two years old)...and the kid was sound asleep. Why bring your baby to a three hour movie starting at 11pm?!? No child should be out 'til two in the morning. Do they think this is healthy for their baby? People like that do not deserve to be parents. I personally would not even take a kid to a movie theater period...at least until they are old enough to understand/enjoy the movie. Parents who take babies to movie theaters are putting themselves before their babies. A loud movie theater is not an ideal place for a baby to be. If you are a parent and you take your baby with you when you go out to watch movies, then you are an idiot.

I also notice this sort of behavior a lot when I'm at Disneyland. I was there two days ago and I couldn't believe that parents can be so moronic. I think it's cool that parents want to take their kids to Disneyland. But when I'm in a line for a ride at 11:30pm and I see someone with their kid, who is sound asleep, it pisses me off. Take your kid(s) home already! Sheesh. I must have seen at least five couples that night after 11pm still standing in line with babies who were asleep. Are these people idiots or what? Are they there for their kids sake or their own? Selfish jerks. When your kid/baby is asleep at 11 o'clock at night, that is a sure sign it's time you take them home. Something else that bothered me...earlier that night around 10:30pm, I heard one kid telling his mom that he was tired. The mother's husband(or boyfriend), told the kid, "Shut up...we're not leaving yet." What an asshole! This jackass obviously has not common sense whatsoever. Once again, if you're not going to be a responsible parent, don't have kids!

Another form of idiotic behavior, which happens every single summer, is when parents leave their kids in the car. I heard on the radio a few weeks ago that one couple came home from church and forgot to take their baby out of the car. Well since the weather was like 100 degrees, it did not take long for the baby to die. It took the parents four hours before they realized they left the baby in the car. Give me a break! Another incident that occured over the weekend, police found a toddler and his baby brother in a locked vehicle, in 100 degree weather, with the mother nowhere to be found. Turned out the mother was off shopping. This kind of behavior really irks me. How much trouble would it have been to take the kids with her shopping? The police should have made her sit in the locked car by herself for a hour or two. Stupid people really should not be breeding.

Well, that's my two cents. Hope I haven't pissed anyone off by writing this...that's just the way I feel.
