I really feel sorry for those in Texas. Starting in July, the temperatures in Texas reached over 100 degrees for something like 20 plus consecutive days. That is more than enough to make me get the hell outta that state. I don't feel so bad living in Rancho Cucamonga when I hear about that. It got so bad that power shut-offs during the heatwave were outlawed. The Public Utility Commision decided that Texans could not legally have their electricty shut off due to non payment until the end of the heatwave. People in Texas were dropping like flies. As of August 13th, an estimated 128 people have died due to the extreme weather. 128!! What the heck is wrong with these people?!? I just don't get it. In my personal opinion, you have got to be an idiot to die during a heatwave. I know some of the people who died were elderly, but c'mon...I'm sure not all of the 128 were elderly people.
Here are some ways that I beat the heat. Rule number one: Stay outta the damn SUN! That's the easiest one to remember. When I'm hot I just sit at home and turn on the aircon. I don't go anywhere!! OK so not everybody has air conditioning, but how hard is it to go to the store and buy a fan? Sounds like common sense to me. Drinking a lot of water also helps. People get sick and die because they become dehydrated. Lots of water is key. Take cold showers too. When the heat is unbearable, I take like three or four showers a day. Or go jump in the pool if you have access to one. When you're at home, take off your clothes. Some days when it gets really bad, I walk around my apartment practially naked...not a pretty site I tell you, but comfortable nonetheless. When all else fails, I just open my freezer and stick my head in there for a few minutes. Just do that whenever you feel like you are going to collapse and you'll be fine. :) What I also like to do, which my girlfriend hates, is put the clothes that I am going to wear in the freezer for a few minutes before I put them on. Feels damn good! :) I know I'm weird but hey...I'm not dead like those idiots in Texas. I know I sound cold(no pun intended) but that's just the way I feel. If things get really bad, and you just cannot stay in your house/apartment, then go to a mall, hang out at a supermarket, go read a book at the local library...whatever. Just go somewhere with airconditioning. And if none of these things work for you, then go move to Alaska and freeze your ass off over there!
