So basically I started my third year off on a bad foot. That year I was back living at home. No more screwing around for me...at least not until the school readmitted me. Being on probation, the school would only let me take 2 classes per quarter. I enrolled in a economics class, and I was struggling to find a second class to take when I ran into my friend Steve(old highschool friend) on campus. He asked me to sit in on his Japanese 1A class with him. I did not feel like sitting in with him, but he begged me and I had nowhere else to go, so I agreed. Well, everyone in the class was sitting there waiting for the instructor to arrive...when all of a sudden the door swings open and in walks this georgeous Japanese girl. Her beauty caught the attention of everyone(well at least the guys). She walked up to the front of the class and introduced herself as Keiko Kamibayashi...our instructor. Well, I was so excited that I ended up adding the class that day. I figured why not...I only had one class at the time anyways. :) It was a cool class though. I looked forward to going to class everyday...and so did all of the other guys in the class. I knew they all wanted to get in her pants. My friend Steve was especially infatuated with her. Who could blame him? It was women like her that made us glad to be men.
Well, that year me and Steve decided to carpool to school since we both lived in the same area and had a similar class schedule. We hung out a lot that year. Every single day after school we went back to my house and our highschool friend Daiyu joined us...and we would just sit there and play Street Fighter on the Super Nintendo for hours on end. Then we would go out and eat, before calling it a day. It was such a repetitive schedule...it was almost ritual. Me and Daiyu made fun of Steve a lot at that time. Always teasing him about Keiko(our Japanse instructor). Sometimes it got to the point where Steve would just storm off and go home. :) And one time it got so bad that Steve challenged Daiyu to a fight outside. It was all fun though. We just knew not to make fun of his religion...he was a diehard Christian.
Anyways, I think getting the boot from the school of Social Sciences woke me up. I was scared shitless that my parents would find out so I worked hard to get my grades up. The first quarter, taking classes through UC Extension, I ended up getting two A's...the first time I've ever gotten a 4.0 GPA for any one quarter. The next quarter I took two more classes and got an A and a B+. After that, I re-applied to the school of Social Sciences and they let me back in. The F'ed up thing was that since I was temporarily suspended, the University froze my GPA and none of the grades I got while taking classes through UC Extension counted. So they school let me back in with my 1.89 GPA. Once again I had two quarters to get that over 2.0 or I would be kicked out again. I petitioned to have the school let those grades count. I was denied. So I worked my ass off and the next quarter I pulled my GPA over the 2.0 mark. What a relief. This time I was intent on never going through that again.
During that year I also started working. I made an arrangement with my parents. They said that if I got a job and helped out with rent, I could move out and get an apartment the following year. So I landed this job working as a delivery person at this contemporary Chinese restaurant in Irvine. I'm not going to mention the name of the restaurant...since I plan on mentioning certain things. Anyways, I started working there in April. I didn't think I would last very long there...I got into a bad car accident my second day on the job. I was at a red light and this idiot hit me from behind going 40+ miles/hour. My car was a wreck and had to be towed away. I ended up going through 3 months of physical therapy, but I stuck with the job. I was afraid that I would have to move home if I stopped working. I ended up working there for a year and two months. It was a fun working environment. I miss the people I used to work with(Brenda, Edna, Tuc, Charles, and Deanna). The pay was decent. I was getting paid $5/hour plus whatever tips I got. Some days the tips were great. Once I caterred to this company called Fleur Daniel...only took me half an hour to set up and they tipped me $60. Anyways going to work everyday was an adventure. Lots of scandelous shit going on there. The owner's fiance was banging around with the waiter. When the owner found out, he hired this hot Vietnamese hostess and started banging her. One employee was drinking beer in the back while on the job and got caught...he was fired. The one thing that really bothered me about the restaurant was that they claimed that they do not use MSG(monosodium glutamate). This is even printed on their menus. MSG has been known to cause serious health problems. Well, the truth of the matter is that they do use MSG. I even asked the chef once, pointing to the MSG, what was that he was putting in the food. His reply was 'Flavor X'. When I quit, I was very tempted to report them to the FDA.
That summer I had to take summer classes again but I think I enjoyed that summer much more than the summer before. I was just relieved that I would not have to worry about getting another letter in the mail from the school.
